William B. Lewis Appointed to Florida Bar Professionalism Committee
Continuing in the high standards set by the law firm of Morgan & Morgan, P.A., attorney William B. Lewis was appointed to a three-year term on the Florida Bar’s Committee on Professionalism.
William B. Lewis is a partner of the Morgan & Morgan Business Trial Group, where he concentrates his practice on business and securities litigation.
“Striving for the highest levels of professionalism in our practice is more important than ever, and I look forward to working with the Committee to further this ideal,” said Mr. Lewis.
The Standing Committee on Professionalism assists the Commission and Center for Professionalism in implementing programs, events, and activities to promote professionalism throughout Florida.
“Striving for the highest levels of professionalism in our practice is more important than ever.”
The Center was created in 1996 as a joint project of the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida Bar. It grew out of research from the American Bar Association and The Florida Bar that found many lawyers were not adhering to the public’s or the legal profession’s high expectations of ethical conduct in the field.
Lack of professionalism and lack of ethics in a faster-paced legal environment fueled by technology, along with negative stereotypes about lawyers as self-serving, spurred the creation of the Center for Professionalism, which set the goal of making professionalism a higher priority to Florida lawyers, including law schools, the judiciary, and The Bar.
Rule 19-1.1 of the Florida Bar defines the Center’s purpose, which is to “identify and enunciate non-mandatory standards of professional conduct…higher than those required by the Rules of Professional Conduct.”
The Center’s many activities include publishing a quarterly newsletter on legal professionalism, reviewing and approving CLE related to professionalism, and presenting professionalism programs and seminars. The Commission and Committee provide focus and direction to the Center in its efforts to promote professionalism.
